Authentic Indonesian Comfort: Resinda Hotel Karawang’s Favourite Soups

As part of the Padma Hotels brand, renowned for celebrating locality, Resinda Hotel Karawang offers an authentic Indonesian menu that adds a unique richness to the guest experience. Nestled in the bustling industrial city of Karawang, the hotel welcomes many international guests and proudly introduces them to Indonesia’s diverse culinary heritage, extending far beyond iconic dishes like nasi goreng and sate ayam.

At The Oryza Restaurant, our all-day dining venue, guests can enjoy an Indonesian-style breakfast buffet, and for lunch and dinner, savour a selection of delicious à la carte options. Here, we highlight some of the most beloved Indonesian soups – comfort foods that hold a special place in the hearts of locals and are perfect for warming both body and soul. These dishes not only capture the essence of Indonesian flavours but also bring a sense of home.

Sup Gabus Pucung

Unlike most soups that are either clear or creamy, this unique dish features a black broth – hence the name, which translates to “fish soup in black broth”. Originating from Betawi (Jakarta), the soup owes its dark colour to keluak nuts, which infuse it with earthy, nutty notes. Paired with tender gabus fish, this soup is as aromatic as it is deeply flavourful.

Sup Janda

With a name that often sparks curiosity, as it is a short form of JAva and SuNDA, but also translates to “the widow’s soup”, this dish features a light, clear broth filled with vegetables like carrots, potatoes, and cabbage, along with tender cuts of beef or soft bones. Beloved for its comforting, home-cooked feel, this soup brings warmth and flavour to every spoonful.

Soto Gempol

While in Karawang, don’t miss this traditional dish that originates from the region. This soup features a rich, fragrant broth, with tender beef or shredded chicken, chicken liver, vermicelli noodles, and eggs. Best enjoyed with a side of sambal and a squeeze of lime, for an extra spicy kick that enhances its delicious flavours.

Sup Buntut Resinda

Oxtail soup is one of Indonesia’s most cherished soups, loved for its rich, hearty flavours and the tender oxtail, slow-cooked for hours to perfection. Often served with carrots and potatoes, this indulgent dish is enjoyed both as a comforting everyday meal and a special treat for occasions.

After the main course that is packed with an abundance of flavours, you might want to end your meal on a sweet note. Serabi Resinda is a popular choice to complete your Indonesian culinary adventure. Its soft, fluffy texture with a slight crunch at the edges, paired with pandan and coconut flavours, brings out a natural sweetness. This is complemented by a rich, caramelised palm sugar sauce, topped with pieces of jackfruit and the much-loved coconut gelato.
