Taste the Best of Chinese New Year at Resinda Hotel Karawang

Chinese New Year has become a national holiday in Indonesia. As mentioned in our previous article about the celebration at Padma Hotel Semarang, major cities across Indonesia, along with shopping centres, restaurants, and hotels, are adorned in red and traditional Chinese decorations like lanterns. Chinese-Indonesian families typically come together for special meals.

A cherished tradition of the celebration is the giving of Angpao (red envelopes filled with money), symbolising blessings and good fortune for the year ahead. Married couples or elders usually offer these to children and younger family members, fostering a spirit of sharing. The festivities are further enhanced by Barongsai (lion dance) performances, which are believed to bring good luck, adding to the joyful atmosphere of Imlek in Indonesia.

In celebration of the upcoming Year of the Snake, Chef Tan Dee Hond from Hai Wang Chinese Restaurant at Resinda Hotel Karawang is excited to share the must-have dishes for the occasion, along with what will be served in their “Feast of Prosperity” programme.

A salad for good fortune

Start your celebration with Yu Sheng, also known as the Prosperity Toss. This colourful salad of shredded vegetables, fresh fish, and flavourful sauces symbolises abundance and unity. The tradition of tossing the ingredients together with loved ones reflects hopes for success and happiness during Chinese New Year.

Symbolic dishes for a prosperous year

During Chinese New Year, fish is seen as a symbol of abundance and prosperity, while chicken signifies fresh starts – both representing wishes for a year filled with success and good fortune. Indulge in the delightful Steamed Grouper Fillet with Garlic and Chilli, paired with the savoury Roast Chicken à la Thai – two must-try dishes at Hai Wang.

The stars of the feast

Savour the Braised Australian Abalone (8A) with Beancurd Skin and Fa Choi, also known as “fat choy” or black moss, a beloved ingredient in Chinese New Year cuisine that also symbolises prosperity and good fortune. Frequently featured in stews and stir-fries, Fa Choi represents wealth and abundance. In this exquisite Hai Wang dish, it is perfectly paired with tender abalone and fresh vegetables, creating a festive and meaningful treat to celebrate the occasion.

From Yu Sheng to the main course and dessert, every dish is crafted with expertise. Celebrate with us at Resinda Hotel Karawang for a memorable Chinese New Year filled with exceptional food and time-honoured traditions.
